Technical Support

Together with Oscar Kerkenaar, Bart van der Linden, Kevin Mouthaan and Willy Rook, I am one of the 5 technicians of the section Catalysis Engineering (CE).

It is my job to make sure the scientists (PhD-students, postdocs and Msc-and Bsc-students) have a working setup. Advise is given on how to build, construct, modify setups and I am the intermediate between the scientist and the delivering company or workshop.

Questions that have to be answered are for example:

  • choice of material (chemical resistance)
  • reaction conditions (temperature, pressure, flow)
  • which supplier is the best choice? (quality, price, deliverytime, support)
  • safety-issues (safety relief valves, gasdetection, check valves)
  • data-acquisition: Labview is our standard programme à support via Bart Boshuizen
  • type and size of connection to use (Swagelok, NPT, VCR, VCO, BSPP)

I also have a lot of contact with the TU Delft departments workshop (Demo), the facilities (FMVG), LMS, the Department Safety Officer (DSO) and with other technicians in the DCT-building.

The following setups are my direct responsibility:

  • Diesel 6 Flow
  • Diesel Soot Engine
  • Small Activation Setup
  • Large Activation Setup
  • TPR
  • Autoclaves
  • Glovebox
  • High Pressure Test panel
  • With most of the other setups I can also help (and otherwise one of the other technicians can help)

Area Supervision

  • Deputy Area supervisor of the High Pressure Lab, Silanenzaal and Petroleumzaal

Teaching Activities

  • Practicum Basisvaardigheden - B.Sc. (together with Jorge Gascon) [2009]

Followed Courses

  • Bronkhorst MFC course (2008)
  • Swagelok Tubing Course (1999)
  • Safe working with gascylinders (2004)
  • Labview course (2005)

Research Activities

Several research projects have been done in the field of soot oxidation research.

  • This was in cooperation with companies like Shell, Bosch, Daimler-Crysler, Wartsila, Cummins.
  • The most recent research topic was:
  • Soot oxidation characteristics as function of diesel fuel composition (Ing. H.Jansma, Dr. R. Uitz and Dr.Ir. M. Makkee), this topic has been presented on several conferences
